Bible Study Guide for the Book of Psalms

Psalms Bible Study

One thing that has always amazed me is how often the Book of Psalms is quoted in the New Testament. When I was younger I would “read” the book, but I would never undertake a thorough Bible study based out of Psalms.

Pretty much I felt that the book of Psalms is the place that Christians go to when they need to be encouraged or refreshed or want to take in something spiritually “beautiful”, but not that it is a book of weight. If Romans was a steak dinner than Psalms was french silk pie. I’m guessing that there are a lot of others that feel that way.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Psalms is often quoted by the New Testament writers. It would stand to reason that if they felt it was so important, then that might be a clue that we should handle the poetic texts with reverence and care, digging deep for the spiritual truths The Holy Spirit placed there.

As I study through the Bible using the MacArthur Bible Study Method, I’ve decided to add in a section from Psalms and Proverbs each day. Below are some of the most recent Bible Studies that I’ve undertaken in this Book.


Psalm 90

As we set up this Bible study guide of Psalm 90 it’s important to remember that this is the ONLY Psalm written by Moses included in the book of Psalms. Moses does have a song elsewhere in the Bible, but this is the only true Psalm.
